AUTHOR and ILLUSTRATOR BIO

Joan Kathleen Wood grew up on a farm with four brothers and sisters in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Her mother, Dorothy Weichenthal, is an oil painter and plein air artist. Joan’s love of art started at an early age on outings with her mother’s art group. In college, she majored in Graphic Design and pursued a 25 year career in advertising and marketing.

For decades, Joan wrote funny, short stories about her adventures traveling with her husband. After moving to California, she joined the Society of Children’s Writers and Illustrators and expanded her love of writing and cartooning. Joan developed her charming Forever My Beloveables characters over a period of many years before writing a children’s book.

In her first book, “Green Tea & Yellow Bees, A Charming Tale of Friendship,” Mia Twofer-Tia Meets the Beloveables, with lessons on becoming a friend.

Following up with “Mia and the Beloveables Ride the Christmas Train Down Candy Cane Lane,” the characters spend a day together, decorating for Christmas and enjoying winter activities. Joan is now working on the third book of her series, called “Train, Train on the Track,” which is a tale about taking a special journey while celebrating Mina Odelina’s birthday.

She makes her new home in Youngsville, North Carolina with her husband, Buz, enjoying art, gardening, hiking and biking.
